(2) (PaLM) (PAthways Language Model) An AI language model from Google released to the public in 2023. Pathways enables scaling across Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) and is the first system to use more than 6,000 TPU chips. PaLM is expected to handle many more tasks than current AI chatbots because it can accept text, voice and image input. Using more than 500 billion parameters, the PaLM model is three times larger than GPT-3. See Tensor Processing Unit and GPT.

PaLM 2
The next version of PaLM, PaLM 2 is trained on more than 100 natural languages that include scientific articles and mathematical expressions. PaLM 2 will be available in multiple versions from lightweight to the most advanced: Gecko, Otter, Bison and Unicorn. Multiple Google products are expected to take advantage of PaLM 2. For example, Workspace helps people write in Gmail and Google Docs.

Med-PaLM
Trained on medical examinations and research, Med-PaLM and Med-PaLM 2 are AI systems designed to generate answers to medical questions. In 2022, the first Med-PaLM version achieved a better-than-passing grade on the U.S. Medical License exam. In 2023, Med-PaLM 2 achieved an accuracy of 86.5% on the exam. See AI stages and AI.
