Definition: PKZIP cross platform

In 2002, PKWARE purchased Ascent Solutions, Inc., Miamisburg, OH, a specialized provider of ZIP compression support for more than 15 platforms. This eliminates the problem of zipping a file in Windows, for example, and unzipping it on a mainframe system.
