Definition: ZDNET

A technology portal from Ziff Davis. Founded in 1991 as ZiffNet, a subscription-based online service for CompuServe users before the Internet became mainstream, "ZD Net" became the evolution of PCMagNet in 1994, an online service of PC Magazine that debuted in 1988. ZD Net was an extremely popular technology site. In the late 1990s, ZD Net was stylized as ZDNET.

In 2000, CNET acquired ZDNET from Ziff Davis Media, and CBS acquired CNET in 2008. In 2020, CNET was acquired by Red Ventures, and in 2024 Ziff Davis acquired CNET, bringing ZDNET back to its original owner where the "ZD" in ZDNET is only fitting once again. See Ziff Davis Enterprise and Ziff Davis.
