Originally Ray-Ban Stories, Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses debuted in 2023 with improved audio and video capabilities. Speaking "Hey Meta" accesses Meta AI, an advanced virtual assistant.
Ray-Ban Stories
In 2021, Ray-Ban Stories were the first products, and users were required to have a Facebook account and the Facebook View app for pairing the glasses with the phone.
The Orion Prototype
Orion smart glasses are advanced AR glasses from the Ray-Ban Meta collaboration. With the Meta AI smart assistant running on Orion, the glasses were introduced for selected testing in 2024. Final models are expected by 2027.
Oakley Meta HSTN Smart Glasses
In 2025, Meta added a smart glasses model from Oakley, Inc., an EssilorLuxottica subsidiary. Oakley Meta HSTN Limited Edition glasses are at the higher end and feature polarized lenses and longer battery life.
EssilorLuxottica
The 2018 merger of French Essilor and Italian Luxottica created the world's largest manufacturer of lenses and eyeglasses with more than 17,000 stores wordwide. Obviously, Meta expects augmented glasses to be essential in the future because, as of 2025, it has a $3.5 billion equity stake in the company.
