Gangster) OG is slang for anyone who was the founder or creator of something that was the first of its kind. Ice-T did not invent the term, but his "O.G. Original Gangster" album in 1991 was his most successful record. In 1993, Original Gangsters was a criminal gang in Sweden, and in 1996, "Original Gangstas" was an action film with Fred Williamson, Jim Brown and Pam Grier. Although the term became popular in the 1990s, OG was known to be used before that time.
Used as a synonym for "original," the OG term can even be applied to a product; for example, "how does your new abc compare to the OG abc?" See
