Definition: OSC


(Open Sound Control) A protocol for multimedia devices developed by the Berkeley Center for New Music and Audio Technology (CNMAT) at the University of California. OSC works with all electronic musical instruments and supports multiuser control of sound and virtual reality, as well as musical performances over a LAN or WAN. Data from MIDI instruments as well as non-standard sensors are converted to OSC for common control.
