(ON Semiconductor Corporation, Scottsdale, Arizona)  Founded in 1999 as a spinoff of Motorola's Semiconductor Components Group, onsemi (its business name) makes a wide variety of chips and discrete components for automotive, communications, industrial and military applications.  In 2016, ON Semiconductor acquired Fairchild Semiconductor, one of the earliest chip companies founded in 1957 (see 
Fairchild Semiconductor).  With a half dozen U.S. locations and one in Canada, ON Semiconductor has more than 25,000 employees.
