Definition: OCR font

A font introduced in the late 1960s for optical recognition. OCR fonts were designed for both machine and human recognition in the days when machine recognition was nowhere near as powerful as it is today. Nearly all printed fonts can be recognized with OCR machines in the 21st century. See OCR.
