Definition: NewSQL


A variety of database implementations that are designed to deal with big data. Using the traditional SQL language and relational database model, NewSQL employs in-memory computing, distributed techniques, clustering and commodity servers to improve scalability. It provides the attributes of NoSQL architectures while conforming to the relational model. VoltDB, NimbusDB and Tokutek are examples of NewSQL databases.
