Based on the user's smartphone location, the thermostat can lower the temperature when people are away from the house. It can postpone the start of a connected electric clothes dryer to a time of lower energy cost. Between 2011 and 2023, Google claims Nest thermostats have saved customers more than 130 billion kilowatts of electricity. See
