Definition: Neighbornode

A Wi-Fi hotspot for neighborhoods. Developed by John Geraci in 2004, it enhances a Wi-Fi hotspot that is open to the public by providing a community bulletin board for the area. When users log in, they are immediately directed to the local bulletin board Web page. The creation of a Neighbornode requires a firmware update in the wireless router. See captive portal.
