Definition: NVMe HDD

A hard disk drive (HDD) interface from Seagate that uses the NVMe interface, which was designed for solid state drives (SSDs). The NVMe HDD enables hard drives to take advantage of the faster speed and parallel operation in the NVMe interface. In 2021, Seagate introduced the first NVMe HDD prototype, which also supports the SAS and SATA interfaces. As proof of concept, a 12-bay drive case with a PCIe switch to the connected drives was introduced at the 2021 Open Compute Project (OPC) in San Jose, California. See NVMe.
