Definition: Mobile 2.0

An umbrella term for advanced services on mobile phones. It is the smartphone equivalent of Web 2.0; however, the mobile world offers two significant advantages over the desktop/laptop Web 2.0 environment. Firstly, the smartphone is much more "personal" than the personal computer. It is generally always with a person or at least nearby. While one might not lug a laptop down the street, the smartphone is more than likely to go along. Secondly, smartphones have GPS capability, so the phone, and by extension, the services it connects to, know where the user is at all times. This capability added another dimension to smartphone functionality (see social networking).
