(Micron Technology, Inc., Boise, Idaho) An American semiconductor manufacturing company that specializes in memory, solid state storage and camera sensor chips. Founded in 1978 by four people in the basement of a Boise, Idaho dental office, Micron built its first fab in 1980, and its first product was the design of a 64K memory chip in 1981. With the purchase of Texas Instrument's memory operations in 1998, Micron became one of the largest memory companies worldwide.
