Definition: Mavica
An earlier family of digital cameras from Sony that used floppy or CD-R drives for storage. Introduced in 1997, the Mavica was the first digital camera to include a floppy drive. Although storage was limited to a handful of 640x480 images per disk, it was popular because floppies were inexpensive and provided a universal transfer mechanism. Subsequent Mavicas burned the small 80mm CD-R discs, providing a leap in storage capacity. The Mavica line was dropped in 2003.
