Definition: MagSafe


(1) A magnetically attached power plug for Mac laptops from Apple. If the laptop is transported beyond the length of the power cable without unplugging it, the MagSafe disconnects without damage. Introduced in 2006, it was discontinued ten years later.

(2) A wireless charging and attachment technology from Apple introduced with the iPhone 12 in 2020. MagSafe supports 15 watts of power and enables the phone to magnetically bond to chargers, car holders and other attachments. iPhone cases must be MagSafe capable in order to be charged on a MagSafe charging stand.
