Definition: Mac Dashboard


A launching pad for mini applications (widgets) in the Mac. Introduced with Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), the Mac came with several Dashboard widgets such as a dictionary, stock ticker, language translator and currency/measurement converter. Thousands more were available at the Apple website, but Dashboard was removed in macOS Catalina.




Dashboard Widgets
When the Mac Dashboard is invoked, the desktop and all open windows become grayed in the background, and the widgets become visible.
