Definition: Mac Dock

An on-screen toolbar that displays all active applications as well as inactive applications if configured to do so. If the app was minimized, clicking its Dock icon restores the window to its previous size and location on screen. The Windows counterpart is the Taskbar (see Win Taskbar).

An Animated Taskbar
Introduced with Mac OS X, the Dock's icons are slightly animated. As the cursor is moved along the Dock, the icons are magnified creating a rippling effect. The Dock can be located at the sides or bottom of the screen and can be set to hide (autohide). Icon size and their amount of magnification can also be adjusted. See Pin to taskbar.

The Mac Dock
Mac users love the rippling effect as they move the cursor across the icons in the Dock.
