Definition: MMCA


(MultiMediaCard Association, Beaverton, OR) A membership organization founded in 1998 to promote the MultiMediaCard (MMC) storage module used in cellphones, PDAs and other small handheld devices. MMCA endorsed the specification and developed compliance testing, while the companies that built the cards chose their own storage circuit technologies. By 2007, fourteen original members had grown to more than 150 company members, worldwide. In 2008, MMCA merged with the JEDEC division of EIA. See MMC.
