Definition: MIME exploit

A vulnerability in certain versions of Internet Explorer that enables a virus to be unleashed by merely viewing a website or an HTML-based email. A MIME header associated with an executable attachment is modified to the type that IE does not handle properly, which causes it to be executed automatically. Such bugs are corrected with a patch to the software and are fixed in subsequent versions. The Nimda virus uses the MIME exploit. See Nimda.
