Definition: Lotus Symphony

An earlier free office suite for Windows and Linux from IBM. Introduced in 2007, it included word processor, spreadsheet and presentation graphics applications. Lotus Symphony natively supported the OpenDocument format and also imported Microsoft formats.

Programs in the Symphony suite were updated versions of earlier Lotus software, such as Lotus 1-2-3, the spreadsheet that helped popularize the IBM PC in the 1980s. Lotus Symphony was discontinued in 2012, and the source code was contributed to the Apache Software Foundation. See Symphony.
