Definition: LoRaWAN


(LOng RAnge Wide Area Network) A low-power, low-speed wireless network from Semtech. Developed in the mid-2010s for Industrial IoT applications with a range of approximately 4-8 miles, LoRaWAN operates between 433MHz and 923MHz (902-928MHz in North America). Having become a major network standard for IoT devices, LoRa defines the physical layer and modulation technique, whereas LoRaWAN defines the entire network protocol including the application layers.
