Definition: Linkplay

A platform from Linkplay Technology Inc. that supports audio streaming from mobile devices and computers to speakers via Wi-Fi. Providing a turnkey hardware/software solution to speaker vendors, Linkplay was introduced in the U.S. in 2014.

By adding one of Linkplay's system-on-chip (SoC) modules to their speakers, vendors can support multiple streams of regular and most high-res audio formats to different speakers at the same time for multiroom listening. Linkplay software in the vendor's app makes it easy for users to connect to Internet radios and streaming music services such as Spotify, Tidal, Napster, Audible and many others. LinkPlay devices can also be integrated with Amazon's Alexa Voice Services to provide a wireless, hands-free experience. See Wi-Fi audio, audio streaming and Amazon Echo.
