Definition: LTFS

(Linear Tape File System) Introduced in 2010 and adopted by the LTO community, LTFS is a common file system for magnetic tape. By providing an index to files on the tape, LTFS makes tape function more like a direct access disk or SSD. However, files are always added to the end of the tape, and if a file is deleted, that space is not freed up until the entire tape is rewritten. See LTO.
