One of the First Heavyweights
Ingres was one of the first DBMSs noted for its advanced features such as triggers and stored procedures. Originally developed by Relational Technology, which was founded in 1980 to market "INteractive Graphics and REtrieval System," Ingres was developed at the University of California at Berkeley in the early 1970s. The company was renamed Ingres Corporation and later acquired by the Ask Group and subsequently Computer Associates. See PostgreSQL.
