Definition: Infogate

A former, major Internet news and information service from Infogate Inc., San Diego and New York. Supported by ad revenues, Infogate delivered selected stock alerts and headlines in floating toolbars, which were the launching pad to the details on the Web. Stemming from the EntryPoint product, which evolved from PointCast, the first popular push technology on the Web, Infogate was a merger of EntryPoint, Inc. and the Internet Financial Network (IFN) in 2000.

In 2002, the free Infogate service was discontinued, and users were encouraged to sign up for premium online subscriptions. Two of these fee-based services were CNN Newswatch and USA Today NewsTracker. In 2003, Infogate closed its doors. See PointCast and EntryPoint.

The Infogate Toolbars
The three toolbars provided the launching pad to personalized summaries as well as more detailed information on the Web. Infogate was completely customizable. (Images courtesy of Infogate Inc.)
