Definition: ISDN terminal adapter

An earlier device that adapts a computer to an ISDN line. Like an analog modem, the terminal adapter (TA) plugs into the serial port of the computer or into an expansion slot. Some terminal adapters used the parallel port for higher speed. The adapter may also include a regular data or fax/modem and switch between analog and digital depending on the type of call. See ISDN.
