Definition: IMG file

(IMaGe file) A Mac file created by Diskmaker that is used to make a sector by sector copy of a disk or to turn selected files and folders into a self-contained volume with its own directory. For example, an IMG file can be stored on the desktop and have it function like an additional disk.
