Definition: HyperSpace


(1) A science fiction concept of interstellar travel to other dimensions.

(2) An instant-on OS from Phoenix Technologies Ltd. that ran stand-alone or with Windows. As soon as the computer was turned on, the Linux-based HyperSpace enabled access to the Web and other HyperSpace applications. It drew less power than Windows and provided more running time on a battery charge. In 2009, HyperSpace was purchased by HP and partially incorporated into their own instant-on product.
