An informal group of hobbyists interested in promoting computers for the masses. Founded in 1975 by Gordon French and Fred Moore, Homebrew Computer Club members first met at a Community Computer Center in Menlo Park, California. The initial meeting was held just a few months after the announcement of the Altair 8800 computer kit, which came with Microsoft's BASIC interpreter. See
