Definition: HiFD disk


(HIgh Capacity Floppy Disk) A 3.5" diskette introduced in 1998 by Sony and Fuji Photo Film Company that held 200MB. HiFD drives could read and write standard 1.44MB floppy disks. Although the HiFD held 138 times as much as a floppy, it never caught on because Zip disks and CD-R technology became popular.
