Definition: Graphcore


(Graphcore, Bristol, UK) A semiconductor design company founded in 2016 by Nigel Toon and Simon Knowles to develop processors for machine learning and AI. In 2018, Graphcore shipped its first Intelligence Processing Unit (IPU), the C2 IPU accelerator on a PCIe card. A year later, server products were officially launched and purchased by Microsoft for its Azure datacenters. They were also available for sale from Dell. See IPU.

IPU-POD
Graphcore's PODs contain from 16 to 256 M2000 units (see below) to provide essential parallel operations for AI training and inference.




Graphcore's Second Generation
