Definition: Wear OS

A wearable version of the Android operating system. Designed for smartwatches and other body-worn devices, Wear OS was introduced in 2014 as Android Wear. The LG G Watch and Moto 360 were the first smartwatches to run the OS.

Google's virtual assistants were integrated into Wear OS, first Google Now and later Google Assistant. In 2015, Wi-Fi support was added to allow music, GPS, notifications and apps to be used without the phone nearby. Gesture controls enable scrolling by flicking the wrist, and a battery-saving black and white mode is included. See Google Assistant and Android.
