Definition: Google Brain


An AI research division within Google that was created in 2011. Google has two entities that work on AI projects. Google Brain is an internal group whereas DeepMind is a stand-alone company acquired by Google in 2014, which became a part of Alphabet a year later. Google Brain is noted for its development of the TensorFlow AI framework, whereas DeepMind has been developing algorithms with Alphabet's Waymo for driverless cars. See TensorFlow and Waymo.

Other DeepMind Accomplishments
In 2016, DeepMind's AlphaGo board game beat an international Go champion, and in 2020, its AlphaFold2 predicted the shape of proteins to the nearest atom, a dramatic accomplishment that has huge potential for analyzing human functions.
