Anyone Can Be a Golem Provider
Not just a virtual partition but an entire physical machine is recommended using a version of Linux. Windows and Macs can also be used running the WASI interface (see WebAssembly

As of early 2022, more than 750 Golem providers were offering roughly 15,000 processing cores, 20TB of RAM and 150TB of storage.
Crowdfunded in a Half Hour
In November 2016, the Golem Network was crowdfunded with the target amount achieved in 29 minutes, and the first app was launched on Ethereum in 2018. Although the original token was the GNT, it changed to GLM in 2020, and the maximum supply of both is one billion.

Oddly enough, in Hebrew folklore, a golem is a creature made from inanimate matter that has been endowed with life. Sometimes, the purpose of the golem is to protect or be heroic.
