Definition: GPS radio occultation


Used for weather forecasting as well as climate change monitoring. A radio signal from a geostationary GPS satellite (GEO) is sent to a low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite. The changes detected due to the occultation (interference) of particles determine the properties of the atmosphere.
