Definition: FDMA

(Frequency Division Multiple Access) FDMA is the wireless implementation of FDM (frequency division multiplexing). Used in satellite transmission and earlier AMPS analog cellular networks, FDMA divides the bandwidth into separate channels, one for each user. Whereas FDM functions at layer 1 of the OSI model, FDMA is a data link access method that operates at layer 2. See FDM, TDMA, CDMA, CDPD and OSI model.
