Definition: XMP


(1) (EXtensible Metadata Platform) An ISO standard for storing and exchanging descriptive data (metadata) about some object. Initially developed by Adobe, XMP data can be embedded into various media formats, including images and PDF files, or it can reside in separate files. In a post-production workflow, the XMP data can be updated as the content passes from one step to the next. See metadata.

(2) (X/Open Management Protocol) A high-level network management protocol governed by X/Open. Network management software written to the XMP interface is shielded from the details of the underlying SNMP or CMIP protocols.
