A JavaScript routine that places persistent cookies in the user's computer by storing them in multiple locations and in obscure ways; for example, hiding the text within a PNG image file. If one of the cookie files is deleted, Evercookie restores it. Evercookie was introduced as open-source software in 2010 by Samy Kamkar as proof of concept. Kamkar was the hacker who infected more than a million users on MySpace in 2005. Utilities to remove Evercookie were subsequently developed by third parties. See
