(European Union Directive) A set of privacy requirements that took effect in 1998 and ordered European member nations to enact compliant legislation. The EU Directive dealt with the establishment of Data Protection Authorities and people's rights to personal information and enforcement. It was replaced with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (see GDPR). See privacy.
