Definition: Edison base


A family of screw mounts that are commonly used for light bulbs worldwide. The bulb screws into a threaded base, and sizes range from 5mm to 40mm (E5 to E40). The North American Edison base is one inch in diameter, or 26mm (E26). See incandescent bulb, halogen bulb, fluorescent bulb, LED lighting and PoE lighting.




North American Bulbs
The North American "Medium" E26 base is used for bulbs up to 300 watts. Countries with 220-240 volt power use E27 bulbs and sockets.
