Definition: J1772

A 5-pin plug and socket for AC charging of electric vehicles in the U.S. The J1772 SAE standard is used in most electric vehicles except for Teslas, which have their own connector. J1772 supports single-phase 120-volt AC up to 12 amps and 240-volt AC up to 80 amps. The vehicle's on-board electronics convert AC to DC for the battery. See EV charging and NACS.

SAE J1772 Sockets (AC Charging)
Plug Present signals the vehicle not to drive off. The Control line communicates charging level and can initiate charging. In the U.S., the Combined Charging System (CCS) adds two sockets for fast DC charging.
