A formal vocabulary for describing Web pages as well as multimedia (videos, images) and physical objects (books, CDs, etc.) on the Web. The Dublin Core is used for general meta tag descriptions in Web pages (HTML pages) as well as linked data on the Semantic Web. The original set included 15 data elements such as title, creator, subject, description and so on. Additional elements were subsequently added into the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI).
The name comes from Dublin, Ohio, where the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) and National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) hosted the OCLC/NCSA Metadata Workshop in 1995. See
