It is typically used to connect devices such as limit switches, photoelectric sensors, motor starters, barcode readers and operator consoles. DeviceNet is based on the CIP protocol, which provides services at layer 7 of the OSI model and the CAN bus, which provides services at layers 1 and 2. DeviceNet is governed by ODVA (Open DeviceNet Vendors Association). For more information, visit www.odva.org. See CAN bus and CIP.
