(1) (Direct To Edit) Direct to edit refers to camcorders that record onto hard disks or solid state disks (SSDs) instead of traditional magnetic tape storage. See tapeless storage.

(2) (Data Terminating Equipment) A communications device that is the source or destination of signals on a network. It is typically a terminal or computer. Contrast with DCE.
