Sharing)  Splitting cellular service between 4G and 5G based on real-time customer demand.  By deploying 5G on 4G LTE cell towers, carriers can claim 5G service nationwide.  However, 5G DSS performance varies considerably and can be slower than 4G in some cases.  For the highest speed, stand-alone 5G service must be deployed.  At the start of 2021, 5G service, both DSS and stand-alone, was just beginning to proliferate.  See
