Definition: DSML

(Directory Services Markup Language) A set of XML tags that defined the contents of a directory. Developed by Bowstreet, Inc., which was acquired by IBM in 2005, and endorsed by major vendors, it was designed to allow directories to work together. An access protocol such as LDAP was required to request services, and DSML provided a common format for delivering the results. See LDAP.
