Definition: Cirus platform

A data ownership platform that pays users for their data from the not-for-profit Cirus Foundation. Founded in 2020, a Cirus browser extension allows users to decide how much data they want to sell. Payment is made in Cirus tokens to the user's digital wallet, and the tokens are exchangeable for other crypto or cash. Using technology from Cubera International, the blockchain-based platform was created to aggregate and sell the data to advertisers.

Crypto Made It Happen
The Cirus Foundation needed the establishment of blockchain technology to facilitate the concept. The network has to authenticate and secure the user's data along with supporting billions of micropayments. The Cirus Layer 2 blockchain handles the transactions and summarizes them on the Ethereum network. See Layer 2 blockchain.

The Real Ownership Economy Perhaps?
A lot of press in the DeFi community is about crypto enabling the "ownership economy" by creating capital via new tokens as well as loaning or staking crypto for rewards. However, getting paid for one's data, which people freely give up every time they search for something over the Internet, is a revolutionary approach. Will it foster the "real" ownership economy? Stay tuned! See Web3 and DeFi.

Browser First, Router Later
Launched at the end of 2021, the Cirus browser extension enables everyone to take part. The next phase replaces the user's router with the Cubera-powered Cirus router. All the websites a user visits pass through the browser, whereas everything goes through the router, including all Internet-connected devices in the home. Before the router becomes available, crypto wallet integration and mobile apps are expected.

The Cirus Data NFT (dNFT)
Cirus created the first "data NFT," which contains the keys to all the curated data that flows through the user's browser and router. Over time, the dNFT points to richer and more meaningful data, which increasingly rewards the user with more Cirus tokens.
