(CenturyLink, Monroe, Louisiana) A major communications company. Founded in 1930, CenturyLink provides telephone, ISP and cloud computing services in more than 20 states. Subsidiaries under the CenturyLink umbrella are the CenturyTel and Embarq local exchange carriers, Qwest and Level 3 networks and Savvis hosting services. See Qwest and Level 3.

One of the First Phone Companies
CenturyLink dates back to F. E. Hogan, who owned the telephone company in Oak Ridge, Louisiana with 75 customers. Sold to the Williams family in 1930 for $500, after several acquisitions, the company eventually serviced 10,000 telephone lines. In 1967, it was incorporated as Central Telephone and Electronics.
