Definition: Cells in Frames

A networking technology developed at Cornell University that embeds ATM cells in Ethernet and Token Ring frames. Cells in Frames (CIF) differs from LAN Emulation (see LANE). It is implemented by replacing the Ethernet hub with a switch or multiplexor known as a CIF Attachment Device (CIF-AD), and CIF drivers are used in the client stations.
